simple setup, is it possible?

I'm wanting to scratch my saltwater itch again. I'm interested in keeping mushrooms, green star polyps and a plate coral. Not interested in sps. Just a wrasse, (six line or mystery), fire shrimp, snails, star fish, and a maybe a a couple other small peaceful fish.
I'm thinking 20g tank or 32g bio cube. T5 lighting and or led, hob filter (need help with this part especially), heater, and that's it.
What media and how is it arranged in the filter?

The rock you have in the DT will be your primary biological filter. If you want to run mechanical or chemical filters such as a sponge, GAC or GFO you can use the HOB filter for that. (Aquaclear) Me personally I would probably use a sponge and then place a small bag of carbon on top of that. Rinse the sponge out every 7-10 days and replace the carbon once a month. Once the tank matures you can probably get rid of the sponge and only use it for a few hours during a water change. GL.

If you just keep up with a monthly water change, you wiil be fine n do not need extra equipement or skimmer. Keep it simple n you have less point of failure. But i do recommend leds since it is more controllable. Here is my 29g cube, i do water change every 3 to 4months.
