Not even sure this is where you post questions, new again. Set up a new 125 gallon reef heaters are off no vents near tank only thing on now is the two recirculating pumps. Here is the qustion my house is at 69 degrees yet the tank is at 80.5 degrees why ? Could the pumps be putting off that much heat ? Help

To Reef Central

Pumps and lighting are both sources of heat, and different configurations can prevent heat from being released (tight covers on the top of the tank, for example).

Hi and welcome! I agree pumps and lighting put off heat...also if you have a aquarium lid...that can trap heat too.

What kind of lights do you have, do you have a canopy, do you have a glass top? Pictures of your setup would help. Have your verified temp with 2 different thermometers? 80.5 isn't bad, but you need to figure it out before summer when your house is warmer.

Lights are new digital no heat output even to touch the only thing I have on are the two pumps at the moment but I do have a complete glasses top. House is at 69 degrees so that means the two pumps are making it 9 degrees warmer that’s hard to believe. Pictures to follow

Yes the pumps are adding heat (mag drives? or what? what model/size?)
In general if you have 2 x 100W pumps then you have the same as 2 x 100W heaters running full time...

And the top is not allowing sufficient heat to be removed from the tank and potentially causing other "gas exchange" related issues...
An aquarium should never be completely sealed or even close to that. The water must "breathe" just like you and me..

You didn't plumb your RO/DI to your hot water? Didn't think so. I have done some stupid things in my life time.

First off, don’t panic. Higher SPS growth rates have been associated with temperatures in excess of 80 degrees. First step would be to provide us with an equiptment list, some equiptment is notorious for heating tanks.
