Heater in 3162

It have ordered the filter 3162 and eheim 50 w heater which is good match I understand. I became i bit concerned when I saw this video on a Tunze demo.

The min water level for the heater is well above the waterline. Appreciate any input on this.

The European 50W and 75W Eheim heater work well, the main point is that the thermostat is submerged, the US 75W is slightly different and does not work well.

Yes, Eheim bought Jaeger some years ago when Mr. Jaeger retired. He was a very good man that made what I think is still the best heater.

Isn't the 75 w (27 cm vs 24.1) model a bit longer? I interpret your answer that the 75 w heater is even more above water (3 cm) but it does'nt matter as long as the thermostat is submerged.

Hmm, you are correct, I just checked the specs. I know that the factory recommendation of 75W was based on the 75W Jaeger heater, the US one does not work because our 115V coil is longer and the thermostat is higher in the tube, however, I cannot rule out a design change so the 230V would maybe not work. In former times the US version was Ebo Jaeger and made in California for the US market, it was the same product the tubes and parts came from Germany, but it had our coil, now Eheim makes all of them in Germany and may have moved to standardize them as much as possible.

I have a 3163 and a eheim 75w. It sticks out past minimum water level but seams to be working just fine.

That is what the white clip goes to. I suspect in your case it works as your filter is nearly 1" deeper than they usually are, typically the teeth are only about 1/4-1/2" submerged, the surface skimming is much more aggressive with a lower submersion but then typically the thermostat portion of the heater is not submerged on US models as the 115V coil is longer and the thermostat is up higher as a result.
