I'm building an LED system for my 90 gallon as well. I think I over did it on the LEDs but at least I'm using dimmers to make sure I don't bleach everything. I've been reviewing several threads to see what the long term affects are. Thanks for the update.

Great Thread!
Kahuna, I have a 90 Gallon and looking at a LED setup as well. I have a closed canopy so I can only get about 12" from surface of water. What is your recommendation in terms of # of LEDs knowing what you know now (I read you had to turn your LEDs down because they were too strong). I don't want to over purchase if I don't have too. Do you have a recommendation (minimum) for SPS for a 90 Gallon using Cree XP-G R5 Cool White and Cree XP-E Royal Blue?

Hi Chris:
I'm a fan of the XR-E, but the XP-E and XP-G series are looking pretty good. The XR-E is at a higher cost point than others, and is now harder to find because Cree isn't making them as much. My LED's are now running at 90% white, 100% blue, and 10% red right now, and my SPS's are looking good. I'm actually adding green, blue, and additional royal blues to my tank, which will give it 108 total LED's over the tank. The PAR is already good, I'm working on a better spectral output than current. Good luck with your build! Kev |
