Polyp over extension
When zoas start opening up beyond fully open. When they start looking like umbrellas. What does this usually mean?!

Low light and/or low water flow, usually.
Otherwise, if light is mid to strong with a decent flow, I don't know why, but I believe there must have something to do with water chemistry or irritation. Pics? Grandis. |

only is happening to my RPE's and Granny Smith's. Chemistry is all good. Water is clean. They have been like this for 2 weeks and I cannot figure out why. |

i seem to get it lately on most red polyps.
i wonder if it has to do w/ moonlights being on all night is too much light stimulation? |

Probably the water flow is too low for that specific colony.
Try to offer more flow and you'll see that it's gonna change slowly. If that doesn't work and the light is good, it's irritation or water chemistry. I'm almost sure that's the flow right there... Grandis. |

... and yes, the moon light is not supposed to be full every night.
It can be on all night long, but moon simulation is not just a bulb. Try to get a device to control the intensity of the moon light bulb. Grandis. |

i have over 20 dif PE's and that happens to all of them around 1-2 months after i get them. then the skirts stay hidden for a few weeks. then they will come back to normal. im guessing its how they get adjusted to the tank

My rpe's looked like complete hell for the first few months, now they look short, fat and amazing... I agree that if they are newer, this could be a thought as well as they might jus take some more time than others to acclimate...
