A80 vs H80 Kessil - Anyone Fugee light?

Anyone else do this? We tried to run the Kessil A80 over the several of the refugiums here and the Chaeto just bleached out and started shrinking. Since we had a plethora of them around since they were first out thought we might as well try. Even being off for 8 hours a day and lower intensity was still shrinking the Chaeto, after months it didn't adapt. Just switched them all to the Kessil H80 and a few are going to the AI Prime Fugee lights. So just a heads up if you're thinking of running an A80 over your refugium.

The A80 is the incorrect spectrum for marco algae and is designed to provided appropriate PUR for corals and not macro alage. On the otherhand, the H80 is the ideal spectrum for most marco and chaeto should grow great under them provided you have sufficient nutrients for the chaeto to grow.

HEYYYYYY Royal Exclusiv, what's up? lol Yeah we just didn't want someone else to do it based on the experience we had. Figured it might not hurt and there were 20 A80s laying around the shop. Appear to be way too bright.

It’s not so much the brightness but instead the spectrum. The Kessil A series lights are designed to have a strong peak in the 420-460nm range which is where corals get most of their needed photosynthetic radiation. On the other side, chaeto and other marco thrive more under red and white light which is why most of the algae scurbbers and fuge lights tend to have a strong bias towards red diodes. The H80’s are about the perfect choice for a fuge light IMO. And yes, the A80’s like most Kessils are deceivingly bright. Most make a big thing out of PAR but really, it’s tough to get accurate PAR readings due to the bluer spectrum and what the Kessils lack in terms of PAR readings on cheaper PAR meters like the Apogees, they make up for in PUR which is more crucial than PAR numbers alone which don’t tell the whole story.

Oh you know what I meant lol Just in general not the best choice for Refugiums is an A80. Hopefully this helps it grow quicker. I expected to see maybe slower or adapting growth, but not completely haulted, then dwindling, then bleached.

I actually need to jump on your site real quick to see about a skimmer.
