On a side though if I'm essentially scooping out some water/phyto/pods every day or two then adding RO/mixed salt water back to top up I'm essentially doing little water changes as I go! Woo less maintenance

Is it possible to buy tons of copepods in a new tank with no fish and establish a sustainable amount for a food source? Or do you have to breed them out of tank like the setups above>?

I've raised Tiggers before - just as a treat or to get new fish eating. But they seem to be in the water column most of the time. The Mandarins that I've seem to eat exclusively from the substrate.

So do the Mandys go into the water column to eat? Don't other fish out-compete them for this free swimming live food? And I guess you have to turn your pumps off during feeding to keep them from shooting around the tank like the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz?

How to ADD live CopePods to my Tank from My CopePod FARM (for Mandarin Feeding)

You can Grow them in the tank as long as you feed the tank live phytoplankton

My mandarin and pipe both eat off rocks as well as water column

How big is your CopePod Farm Container? (Mine do multiply, and I have sustained my farm for months, but they never get that big or many. My Farm is 10 Gallon Aquarium. Half filled.

Is your Farm Exposed to Sunlight. I was told by ReefNutrition that if Farm get's sunlight, they will get Red Like yours. Mine are pale white.

how many hours on the grow light?

So the light is red. Are the copepods red when you observe them under normal lighting. Or are they red because of the red light?

When I buy Fresh tigger prods the are bright red in the bottle. But after next genration batch mine loose their nice red look.

Wow, that is a pretty concentrated Copepod culture. (What kind of Pods are they?)

Here is a YouTube Video of my New Juvenile Leopard Wrasse, in QT week 4. (he is being feed both Tiger Copepods and Live Brine Shrimp (Feed Reef Nutrition Phytofeast). ).

Almost lost hope in the first week since he would sleep in the sand endlessly (but did eventually come out in Week 2). I don't think he would have survived this long without Live Food.

At same time I'm training/exposing him to eat Non-Live food (Flakes, Arti Pods, PE frozen etc).

https://youtu.be/cszovHKV8yA

Feel tempted to throw him into DT, but will be patient till he learns to eat variety. (Once in DT he will have to compete with Mandarin for Live foods).

Water quality in QT (with all with overfeeding) in being maintained by doing Water changes in DT and then doing 50% water changes with DT water in QT.

This water matching/acclimatization will also help with eventual transfer to DT.

Tigger Copepod Farm (Gen 3)

NEW Tigger Copepod FARM SETUP

So my CopePod Farm has been feeding my Madarin for Many Months on a couple Bottles of ReefNutrition Tigger Pods.

I'm adjusting the farm for two reasons:

- Tiggers have never had next generation RED color ADULTS..
- Want a smaller footprint. Need tank for a future QT.

I did have the OLD farm wrapped in black Garbage bag as suggested by Reef Nutrition, however since this farm is in basement with no decent lighting (I think I've been producing Albino type CopePods (thus the lack of red)

So the adjustment is a smaller Farm and Lighting
Using a few left over LEDs from Light Fixture build. [5Watt Royal Blue, Cool Blue & Warm White, but running on very low current]

Plus I went with Larger bubbles from tube VS fine bubbles from an airstone. (Remember reading that too much agitation slows down Brine Shrimp Cultivation, and same might apply to copepods.

- I got a new bottle of Tigger Copepods (1/4 went into tank), the rest in Farm

We'll see how this works out.

Quick update...

Been doing Tiger Pods successfully since last post. Same original batch.

This would be my update after doing it for a while:

-> Ideal container size is 2 Gallon Rectangular Glass Tank (LID IT for less evaporation and no contaminants) ** The one in photo above is what I'm using till this day **
-> Don't waste time on heater (not needed).
-> Water changes (I noticed help, if every 3-4 months when Farm get's filthy).
-> Don't remove the sludge each harvest. (Or you will wait long for next batch)
-> Aeration with bubbles (no stone),
-> and (100% for long term success) get the two different Micro sieves that I mention to catch them (180 Micro for mom & dads) (75 for babies). Always put back babies into farm.
