Who can compete the fish prices with Aquahut and Fishtown USA?

The store is not big, possibly 2,000 SF, but almost completely devoted to corals and salt water fish suitable for reef tanks.

For corals only, the store possibly has the most unique and wide collections comparing with the other stores I have visited in NY & NJ. Their prices are reasonable, and the owner seems willing to work with you.

Usually I have to pay over $50.- for parking when attending the trade shows in Javits Center which is couple blocks away from the store, it's helpful that the store has a small parking lot free for customers.

went to Aquarium Design Network today. Good looking store. Clean. The fish were priced fairly, looked very healthy and well taken care of. The corals for the most part were fairly priced. They have really nice display tanks as well.

It's small, but they have a lot of frags.

I made it out to Tropical Island Aquarium in Deer Park today.

It's an amazing store. They have tons of fish, an excellent supply of corals that are in clean, well maintained tanks. Great prices on fish and corals as well.

They had rare Zoanthids when I was there.

If you're also into freshwater, they had great looking discus and freshwater stingrays, amongst many other cichlids.

Nice, friendly staff. I highly recommend them.

Does anyone know if they sell loc-line or, more specifically, the Pacific Coast Flow Accelerator at AquaHut, Suffolk County F&R or Country Critters?

niners, if you're ever in the city you should check out Manhattan Aquariums. Definitely worth it.

Pets Warehouse in Amityville is a good store with great prices on fish and corals.

Tropical Island Aquarium on Deer Park is good as well.

Agreed

Some of the folks there are in need of attitude adjustment. Remember I'm the customer, and your not doing me a favor.

Country Critters has the same problem. They think they are the only pet store around. Quite independent! I've walked out of the store after waiting to be helped more than once. But the last time really got me angry especially with the situation I ended up with.

The store was pretty empty. I was asked if I needed help after looking at all the fish a couple of times. I said yes and asked what is the price of this fish. The sales guy said he was from the freshwater area and didn't know but would get me some help. After a couple of minutes I heard John being paged for additional help. I waited at least ten more minutes without anyone showing up. I left the store in disgust to do some of my other errands and didn't now if I would go back.

After twenty minutes of cooling off I went back to see if I could get some help. I walked into the fish area and the same sales person asked if Jonathan had helped me. I said "no" and that "I was just returning after leaving the store". About a minute later, Jonathan (the store owner) came over to help me. I asked the price of the fish and then decided to buy it. He quickly bagged the fish and I was on my way.

A week and a half later the fish went from the quarantine tank to the display tank where he made his tank mates nervous. Two days later he took the bottom third off an other fish's tail, up to the body. He was very aggressive and could stay in the tank. After moving him back to the quarantine tank I went back to CC and asked if they would give me a store credit if I brought him back.

Their answer was that they 'don't take back fish since some come back with diseases". I acknowledged the problem but was kind of p'ed off after spending a couple hundred dollars there in the last two months and expecting to do the same in the next couple of months. After thinking about the situation for a second I decided I didn't want to do business with this store any longer.

I said thank you, turned around, and started walking out. When I was about twenty feet away the salesman said that they would take the fish but they wouldn't give me a credit. I was even madder at that statement as it contradicted the reason he just gave me. The compatibility problem may not have been their fault but the handling of it was. If I was to give the fish away it wouldn't be to them!

That was the last time I was in the store and I won't be returning. I can tell you that Jonathan didn't learn his customer service when he worked at Aquahut (for a few years?). I'm sorry I ever gave them any business. Shame on me for not patronizing Aquahut where I've been a non-loyal customer for the last six months of thirty years.

P.S. Aquahut gave me a credit for the fish!

Manhatten Aquariums is nice, but if you're not that close to the city (say, the Island or anyplace like that) you're better off going to their website.

Manhatten Aquariums is the same place as uniquecorals, talked to Kevin when we were there last weekend and he said a lot of the stuff that was on the website (that stuff that'll make your wallet feel like a feather) is all downstairs and not on display inside of the store because they don't have the room for it...

On the bright side, you can browse their selection on the website then just choose "In-Store Pickup" when you checkout so you don't have to pay shipping then you can check out what they do have on display once you get there

Since joining the LIRA i never knew that there was a fish store in bayshore. Since living in West Islip and it only being two min> away i go to visit. Well to my shock i cant find it, turns out a beauty salon is opening where i guess it use to be, what a bummer. Can someone update the list so know one goes looking for it and wastes there time.
I did go to tropical island in deer park and it is an amazing store. great selection and such clean and healthy tanks. Great people very informative.

I still haven't setup a SW tank but have had FW tanks for years. Everytime I go to Aqua Hut I always browse at all the fish in the store and I can't recall seeing a dead fish in the SW section at all. There may be the occassional corpse in the FW section but nothing I would say was sitting there for any length of time.

Thats's the store I've pretty much relied on for years. Heck, I even remember going to their old store a few doors down when I was a kid.
