My baseline is the cost of plywood with an epoxy coat... I would think that there's a plastic sheet out there that can compete on cost with that. I'd even pay double or triple.

A decent 3/4" 4'x8' plywood board is $40 for the good stuff. I'd be willing to pay $100 for it in PVC, but there's no source. The closest is $400 before shipping... that's 10x before shipping.

Isn't there a reasonable plastic construction resource out there?

The PVC board from Lowes is 12' x 7.25" at $40. That's 1044in2 for $40 = 26in2/$, That means that an equivalent 4'x8' sheet would be $177 but I can go pick it from the local Lowes (no shipping).

That's ~4.5x the cost of plywood and is the most attractive option so far. I would like it in contiguous sheet... but still ok.
Have you checked with Allied near Walnut/Harry Hines? Unlike the glass shops they've been reasonable on pricing for plastics if it is something they stock.

How about Alibaba?
https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...449519465.html
If I am doing the math correctly, a 4'x8'x1" (1220x2440x250 mm) sheet will cost about $100 assuming $1.5/kg and 0.9g/cc (highest possible pricing) from that Alibaba link.

Getting material from Alibaba is a little uncomfortable for me... I haven't had great luck going that route.

Has anyone been successful with it?

I'm building a 14.5" tall experimental tank and I think this will work.

Not sure if anyone has said anything on this yet (haven't ready the whole thread) but they make panels like this for live stock containment too and also use it for hockey rinks. There used to be a supply place that did every kind of farm/industry supply anywhere. You could buy them cut to size. They weren't cheap but they weren't as much as glass or acrylic either.

Thanks. It's HDPE so it's a little softer, but might still be ok. it is expensive compared to the PVC.

Have you use them for holding water?

Bruce - I sent a request for quote. We'll see how much it is to get large PVC sheets delivered from China.

No I have not. I've only used them as livestock doors.

Not an issue if you just need to support on it, but be aware that HDPE is very difficult to glue to.

Ok. It's expensive so I'd rather find a local PVC supply
