Carbon vs BTA
Can carbon kill my BTA? I got a new BRS gfo and carbon reactor. After installing it my BTA started to shrivel. Before that I was just running chemi blue and she was doing fine. Do you think carbon is the problem?

No. I run carbon and have no issues with my anemones.

Could high flow be the cause? I have a Red Sea Reefer 250 (65 gallon) with two Vortech mp10. I had both on high and BTA was hidding under a rock. Now it moved to another spot under a rock but shriveled.
Last night I changed the flow on both to random reef crest flow. Well see if that makes a difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I run carbon. My BTAs have negative reaction when I dont run carbon. I don't dose anything so I don't think it has anything to do with iodine either. Sometimes they shrivel up for no reason.

I run iodide (not iodine ) at .03-.06......27 years.
Sounds like a water chemistry and stability problem. What are your parameters, what is the flux,,how long have they been stable. While BTA can withstand a range of levels, they are not good at change. It is also very common to shrink for 1-4 days as it expels waste. Carbon is fine....however some believe it causes HLLE in tangs..... Last edited by Uncle99; 05/23/2019 at 07:19 PM. |
