High Calcium & Magnesium effects

Hi are there any negative issues of having high cal and mag i.e mag 1450 and cal 500+?

Not as far as I can tell. You might see a bit extra precipitation inside pumps, but that's generally not an issue.

If thats the case, is there a range of alk level that is better in those higher ranges? or does this depend on phosphate and nitrate levels?

I don't think anyone knows in any detail. In theory, higher levels will encourage more growth by making it easier for the animal to form its skeleton, but that's hard to quantify, and growth might be limited by other factors.

It is not as important as to whether you run high in the range or low in the range, corals, especially SPS do not like change, so stability and consistentency in the range you use is key. While I have heard about the potential increase growth rate at higher levels, many of the best reefs run numbers close to NSW.
