Will a vortech make a wave if mounted on the long side of the tank?

I currently have a wave box that points down the length of the tank and it works great. But on my new tank I will only be able to mount it on the back about 1/3 down the length of the tank. I know its not optimal but can I still make a wave?

Id be using a MP60QD, the tank will be 84x30x30.

Yes, it can but it would be best to play with positioning. Are you using a vortech in a wavebox or do you have a tunze wave box?

I actually have both. I have a tunze wavebox on my current tank and I was planning to build a new wavebox into the overflow of the new tank. But the Tunze is a bit loud when running a wave larger than 1/2" so I was looking for a quieter option and picked up a MP60QD to mess with.

I know the tunze uses the water level in the box to create the wave so placing it on the back can work but isnt ideal, but Im not sure if the MP60 can create a wave in that position without a box or displacement chamber of some kind.

I'm using an mp40qd on a much smaller system to create a wave. I found that mounting the pump directly in the middle a few inches from the surface gave me the best results. I suspect you will have the same success. I don't know how big of a wave you will end up with though.
