Green Star building skeletal, is this normal?

This GSP started from a small frag on an isolated rock. It covered the whole rock, then started to develop branch-like structure. In the beginning, I thought it was sponge, but it keeps on growing and fully covered with polyps.

This is a photo at night when retracted.... shall I trim it?

It's just growing. Trimming it is up to you! I think it looks cool...

You have the branching variant of GSP.

Reef keeping is life!

It's not a skeleton, it's tissue. It's basically spreading and looking for more ground to cover. It will often form "runners" of tissue as it searches for an anchor.

Thanks for the help. I am gonna go ahead and trim the "runners". I don't want it to spread beyond this rock.

Super glue the clippings to the back of your tank or over flow....

Glue them to frag plugs and take them to your local reef store for store credit.

Please excuse all the algae. The GSP used to be on a rock 4 inches away from the wall right at the bottom where it starts.

Before hurricane matthew hit, my lfs was using gsp to make "shag carpet" on the floor. But that tank crashed due to loss of power. Very cool pics above, interesting to see

you are going to have to trim that every month or two or those plates and branches will eventually detach and find their way to your rockwork. A pair of sharp scissors works well.

I like the idea of gluing it to the overflow box, but I am afraid I won't be able to continually trim it. My tank is 30" deep. With the glass cover and lights, it is difficult to get to the back of the tank.

It looks very nice

You can always trim it to where you are comfortable with it, way before it attaches anywhere you don't want it. Buys you extra time between trimmings.
