Is this carpet salvageable?
Saw this 6" carpet nem at Petco today for $39. It was sitting on top of a rock. What sort of carpet do you think it is? Mouth was closed - under better lighting, how long does it take to color back up?

It's a gigantea carpet. Looks pretty good in that pic other than being completely bleached. With proper care it should slowly regain its zooanthellae.
It could be a blue gig, but will most likely be a shade of tan/beige. |

Went back today. The nem was looking like a lump of mush. Not sure if it was having a bad day or it's a goner. May look again tomorrow.

Based on you saying it was also deflated I would pass on it, I received a badly bleached one from an online purchase and did Cipro treatment etc. and after extreme effort it did not make it. I think if you get one that is deflating but not bleached or bleached but not deflating you have a shot. But completely bleached and deflating, unless they give it to you to attempt a rescue, I would invest my money on something else. Just my opinion based on my recent experience.

I did end up going back a couple of days ago and since it was inflated again, picked it up and started cipro. In two days under AI 26HD, it is turning green instead of white. Fingers crossed.

Haddoni also typically have more bulbous tentacles when stressed, gigantea have short tentacles that get longer as they settle in.
