New with corals. Kenya tree

So I recently purchased Kenya tree and I've had it for 1 day. Now I took my water to the LFS who told me my pH was 7.3 however I did a liquid test and the results are below.
I did in order left to right, tap water, tank water and new mixed salt water. My 2 clowns are happy as Larry. However the coral isn't. Please see the pic attached. What could be the issue? Ammonia nitrite and nitrates are virtually non existent I will test directly after this and post results and pictures for interpretation but they seem to be no issue. Calcium was high and phosphates low. I'm at a loss. Ps directly above my finger was 1 'branch' of Kenya tree.

So results are. Calcium 500
196.9 oh
pH I'd say is in 8s
Ammonia 0-0.25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0 - 0.25

Agree ?

Is that really a Kenya tree? I'm a total coral noob myself, but I wouldn't worry too much if you've only had it for a day. Could just be stress from being moved and handled.

It does look like it's melting... Yeah the wilted coral. The tall piece is an old coral I believe ?

I've had multiple kenyas and seen one melt while others prosper. I attribute that to too low of flow.

I wouldn't say my flow is low, I use a wp40 but lowered voltage as it's far too powerful for my tank

It looks like it's melting. Did you acclimate it slowly? These are hard to kill, but folded over like that does not look good.

On that I'd say no based on the LFS advice. He said should be no need. Would KH be an issue with these corals ?

Not alk as much as pH, salinity and temp. Rapid changes can be fatal. It only takes an hour or two, and I usually follow that up with a coral dip (e.g. CoralRx) to make sure no little nasties get through. I think you'll find most reefers do some sort of acclimation routine every time with all of their new livestock.

I have kept salt water fish/corals for some time. I can tell you that I haven't checked my Ph in over 15 years and my fish and corals are thriving. If your alk is in the correct range your Ph will also be in the correct range. The only time it won't is when your tank isn't getting enough oxygen. Kenya trees are hard to kill. If you didn't already purchase a refractometer you should to ensure of what your salinity level is. Also when keeping corals your salinity should be 1.025-26 If it isn't in this range your corals will not do well or die.

Agree w RA. Invest in a refractometer and your corals/fish will live you for it. Not to mention it will make checking salinity a breeze. If it's a kenya it should be fine if all parameters are in check. Give it time. Also if you don't acclimate your corals they could from the sudden change in water parameters from LFS to yours.

Are you using tap water for your tank? If so, I'd switch to distilled or RO water. Also, what's your salinity and temp at? What's your flow and lighting situation?

Let the Kenya Tree die.........

Mine took over my tank sometime ago. Every little limb that broke off became another tree and so on and so on. I have been ripping them out of the tank for the last year and every time I think I got it all, a month or two later one is popping up somewhere else.

For me these are up there with Xenia. Not as bad a Xenia but getting close......

The only time I've had trouble with kenya trees is when I sprayed DEET all over myself....and then stuck my arm in the tank. Killed off every kenya tree in the tank (and all the other corals to boot, that was a sad stupid day).
