I have a skimmer, some live rock, and Chaeto. Occasionally I use a sock but that’s on and off.

From left to Right I have the refugium, skimmer and return. I made the refugium baffle (single) about 3" from the top, the baffles (two) between the skimmer section and the return pump are determined by how much water your skimmer requires plus a little more in case you get a different skimmer. I only used two baffles incorporating an over under design and i get no bubbles in the DT.

How low the baffle should be from the top, The skimmer manufacture recommend that it need to be in 6"-8" of water .

3/4-1" is usually plenty in most applications.. 4 baffles should be just fine
