Ask @liverock to stop by. Never hurts to ask.

Tampa Bay SW rocks. Literally and figuratively, I guess. I blended mine with dry base rock and Gulf Liverock because their stuff sprouts macro like nobody's business, and the net result was pretty incredible. GLR doesn't look like anything special fresh out of the box but it added a really neat dimension with all the macro.

Yea gGulfviews rocks have some of the coolest macros. I have some right now in a vat that grew sargassum almost a foot long with some of the coolest red macro algae. All the Halimeda that is starting to come out too.. Lots of cool sponges. Mine had a few corals, nothing fancy though with corals.

Nothing wrong with Tampa bay either especially if you want less die off and better chance at sponges making it.

Here is a crappy pic of some rock from Golfview that is in isolation for now. Been in there about a month.
Not a good picture because I need to clean the glass. I threw some dry rock in with it and it is leaching like crazy and causing a cyano bloom..

Some beautiful Algae and you can see a few sponges.
you can see a bouldering coral in the back.
That small leather was not from the shipment.

All my tanks (since I wised up) have been started with The Package from TBS.

I certainly am glad I've kept all this incredible Fiji rock in the display and the refugium of my quarantine tank for the past 20 years. I was able to set up a new display with live rock and NO hitchhikers except 'pods and bristle worms. I don't even have coralline algae despite bright halides.

I bought several hundred pounds of this stuff off a dealer in Columbus, OH many years ago.

He got it by going to Fiji with many tons of Sakrete and cinder blocks. The Fijians were going to use the coral rock for building material. He simply traded them on a 2 to 1 basis.

Pure genius. He had enormous concrete vats full of live Fiji coral rock which was (and still is) the lightest, most porous live rock I've seen.

My biggest regret is how much of this rock I gave to my clients. I could have sold it to LFSs and made a small fortune.

I only buy rock from my LFS or locals so I can actually see what I'm getting and plan my scape

I would like to be able to pick the sizes and shapes that I want as well. But local fish stores usually do not have high quality live rock. If I order high quality live rock I get and almost instant cycle. And there is lots of cool stuff to look at. You can basically start stalking your tank almost immediately.

Yeah, every LFS I've visited has had rock that honestly looked like they took dry base rock and left it in the tank for a few weeks. Of course if people want to start a tank that way, thats totally fine, but just buy the dry rock yourself!

Calling wet base rock "live rock" is dishonest IMO. Live rock has stuff growing on it - coralline algae, macroalgae, sponges - and stuff living inside it -- crabs, amphipods, worms. I have never found real live rock for sale at a LFS. Only wet base rock.

Yeah anymore I guess it's pretty difficult for the most part to find actual live rock in an lfs. Some of them will cycle dry Rock before they sell it. I guess in that case you could call it cured/cycled Base Rock. But yeah I agree calling that type of product live rock is a bit nefarious. I suppose some could argue that it is alive with bacterial LOL

I remember many years ago when my lfs had live Fiji and Tonga in the store for sale. Sponges, Christmas Tree Worms, brittle Stars, various worms.

Yeah, thats the argument they make.

Of course, by the same argument, the door knob on the LFS door is a Live Door Knob and the dollar bill in your wallet is a Live Dollar Bill
