possibly selling my 220g saltwater! HOW MUCH???

Ive got a 220g saltwater tank thats been up and running for about two years now. I have a guy interested in it but i have no idea how much these things run for. When i started i bought it for $800. Sounded like a damn good deal... came with the glass tank, stand, 4-96w cfl light fixture, and 75g sump tank. Ive got it running smoothly and added tons of stuff like powerheads, skimmer, overflow, 200lbs of live rock, and all the stuff to get it goin. Ive got a stock of 3 tangs, coral beauty, two engineer gobies, and a blenny. The probis i have no idea how much its worth and whats actually practical. Ive got this guy coming over later today to look at it and im tryin to figure out a number to start with so i dont get ripped off and dont scare off the guy with an outrageous number?? Any thoughts or numbers that come to mind?

I don't think there is anyone here that can answer that question for you. You have to sit down with yourself and figure out what is the minimum that you are willing to let the tank go for. Anything above the minimum is just a bonus.

This is the only way you will be able to negotiate and in the end not fell ripped off.

You'll have to sit down and figure out what you spent setting up the system after you purchased it (it sounds like you did quite a bit) and then figure out how much of that you want to try and recoup, the gear is obviously used now, so if you bought things new you're probably going to have to figure out what you think is a fair price for the used gear

I would also suggest that you do a search for other fs threads and get an idea of what others are selling similar/same items for.

Also, figure out if the guy interested in the tank wants the fish that you have. It would definantly be a PITA for the guy to purchase the tank, only to decide later on that he doesn't want the fish. Plus you may make more money taking cash upon giving the lfs your fish. I am currently trying to catch two fish that I don't want, which my lfs said I HAD to keep them for 2 weeks to make sure they were healthy. Now they got some ich, so the tank has to now sit fishless for 8-9weeks. I have a feeling that trying to be captured caused some stress. They were damsels and I don't think the net in the tank chasing them for 1 hour helped only to not get them.

It really depends on where you are in ca. If you were selling that set-up here in fresno you would be low-balled for sure. If you were in san diego you could get more. I would start at about 1500 and go down as needed. How desperate you are becomes another issue. If you really want to move it ask 1000 and see what happens. How much was the skimmer and LR?

Used items go for about 40% of new. It also depends how used the item was.
