I had a beautiful and large colony of Reef Raft USA Red Diablo and it RTN'd many months ago, maybe a year or so ago. I cut a handful of frags but this is the only survivor. It is starting to encrust really well and even show some color. Hopefully, it thrives and grows into another stunning colony.

I have rediscovered LPS and thoroughly enjoying their bright and vivid colors. They absolutely glow under LEDS.

Three new acans that I just acquired:

Some blastos:

And back to stonies:

JF Beach Bum Monti

Wow nice shots!
Is the beach bum as invasive than other encrusting montis?
Or does he gave way to acros?
Thanks

Thank you. I don’t trust monti’s at all. I have the beach bum, z’s Dream monti and a third monti, a pinkish/Orange with blue polyps, all three growing either on d&d epoxy or a tile. I aim not to allow them to attach directly to the rock work because of my concern for their aggressiveness.

Here is a picture of another chalice that I have

Thanks, good tip the epoxy!
I just did some cleaning in my tank due to monti taking too much place.
To say, same time last year i only had 4 frags left after my battle with monti nudibranch.
That stuff grow fast.

I seem to have accumulated lots of purplish Coral. The cool thing is that some are adding lots of yellow corallite edges. Not sure why, but enjoying it nonetheless

I think this is really pretty

This next colony was really large and happy and then started to idiosyncratically rtn. I seem to have a single colony inexplicably have an episode like this about once a year. There is always something that is not perfect in the tank but I can’t really point a finger at an aberrant parameter. And although flow is always a consideration with larger colonies, I would be surprised if that was the culprit. On the other hand, I can’t identify any one thing specifically as a cause so perhaps I’m wrong.

I have about a 100 plus frags and/or colonies on my rockwork so I have come to simply accept the occasional adverse event. Most of the serious reefers I know who actually share negative experiences, seem to report similar experiences of unexplained or idiosyncratic necrosis infrequently but consistently.

The colony is slowly getting happier

The following frag is either Lady in Pink or Pretty in Pink. I just can’t seem to keep it clear in my mind which is which. I only have one of the two not both so I just need to confirm from the reefer I got it from which it truly is.

I placed a pretty little JF Flame frag high up on my rockwork a good while ago and it blossomed into a beautiful colony. So much so that it started to shade corals beneath it. I have fragged it previously but unfortunately I left it untrimmed for too long. My issue with it is that not only is shading other corals, but it has gotten so thick that is pretty much impossible to frag with conventional bone cutters. I guesstimate it is around five to six inches in diameter. Hence a technique I’ve seen others use and I have also utilized the technique previously.

A little precaution in advance, I’m new at video taping my tank so be patient with the length of the video. This was taken on October 4, 2018 and the follow up pictures are from today, October 22 or 18 days follow up. Some of the follow up photos are with blue lights and some with white lights, you should be able to figure it out. Enjoy

I got about 20 plus frags out of this fragging effort. Mostly between one to two inches in height

Here is the colony recovering and repairing 18 days post fragging. I think it looks pretty darn good

And here are some of the frags, different photo lighting from blue to white but should be obvious. The frags look gorgeous
