ID this fish?
Just got this from my lfs. It was a donation of a customer tank tear down. They don’t have much info on the fish.... I’ve asked them. They did say it laid eggs for the owner.
I’ve checked with dr Joshi and it’s not a photon he said. It’s large about 4.5 inches and has the classic dirty coloration and marking of a wild caught. Some have told me it could also be tank raised. Some say it could be a mix? Can you please share your opinions? Thx. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Black onyx maybe? By the way, would you mind explaining about the dirty coloration and the mark of a captive specimen, please?

Dirty is how I describe the uneven patterning compared to captive onyx that have uniform black colorations. This fish looks patchy in spots

I wouldn't say that wild caught onyx have uneven patterning. If anything it would be opposite. BTW, even pure black wild caught onyx can loose their dark coloration when they are put in with anemones that are not their natural host.
In one of the pictures it looks like your fish may have a little bit of a squared off nose, which would make me say that it is tank bred.
