Colombo Test Kit Mg

Does any one have any experience with Colombo test kits. When I've used it alongside a Salifert kit and gives a higher reading. The question is, is Colombo high or Salifert low. Your thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

What is the difference that you see? I've never heard of the Colombo brand.

Colombo brand reads 1350 and Salifert 1275.

Hmm, those are fairly close. What's the resolution of the Colombo kit? I'd trust the Salifert, personally, but if the resolution on the Colombo is 50 ppm, then the difference is in the noise.

Not dissimilar to Salifert but what bothers me is that 1275 is low and if I dose then that's ok. But... if 1350 is right and I dose then I may have a problem. It's hard to know where the reference point is.

1275 ppm is about the canonical ocean average, and it's a perfectly fine level for a tank. You could dose it up to 1350 or even 1500 ppm and not have any problems. These articles cover saltwater parameters, if you'd like some reading:

I'm getting increasingly frustrated and concerned. I've just checked my own water in the tank with the Colombo kit giving a reading of 1350. Just picked up some salt water from my LFS (D&D H2O) for a water change and thought I'd check that one and got a result of 1200. This is really doing my head in and no longer confident in the Colombo Test kit.

I don't trust that kit just yet, either. I'd stop worrying about its results, though. Maybe the LFS would test a sample to provide another data point.
