care free tank

We moved a few years ago and I sold all my saltwater equipment, so now we are certified divers and will just use the worlds reefs as our reef tank. We are headed to Bonaire shortly to begin our diving vacations. I don't know how many dives we will get in but I hope to get to the salt pier and 1000 steps for sure. We will be staying at an airbnb rental right on small wall so I hope to dive it at least once a day. Any helpful tips on Bonaire are welcome as this is our first trip there. I will have to open a photo account as well to post some pics when we get back.

Bonaire should be good. Lots of shore diving.

Yeah...I hear that's what makes Bonaire different.

Do yourself a favor and skip the boat dives except for a trip or two to Klein Bonaire. Almost all the dive sites a boat will take you to are easily accessible from land. Rent a vehicle and DIVE DIVE DIVE!!! I've been there twice - the last trip we were doing 4-5 dives daily. Use you computer and stay within limits and all will be fine.

IMHO, Salt Pier is OK, the Town Pier at night is spectacular.

FWIW - we stayed at Captain Don's both times.

we have a truck rental reserved. the boat dives are to reassure my better half that we will be fine diving on our own. This will be the first dive trip on our own and she wants to do a couple group dives first. the boat dives we are looking at are to Klein and one or two on the north end that are reached easier from boat.I have done a few more dives than my wife and we both just got certified in february of this year.

I get it. Another way might be to get a master diver as a guide for your shore dives.

that may have to be an option if she doesn't feel comfortable after the boat dives. But we have done three dives by our selves at the local lake with 10-15 foot visibility, so i think she will be fine.

sorry folks, no pics, no video, not even a trip to Bonaire. our first flight into atlanta never left the gate. it had mechanical problems due to human error. So we didn't get to atlanta in time to make the flight to Bonaire. so mad this entire week. just going to leave it like this for now, when we get some resolution i will post again.

ok, so basically we went to Cozumel, ended up in a tropical storm, had both our go pros fill up with water snorkeling on the first day before the storm came in, and got in 2 boat dives after the storm cleared out. diving was good but the currents were crazy. Dive master said that they were the strongest currents he had experienced on the sites we went to. the good news is we are planning to head to Bonaire the end of January. Not sure what camera I will end up with , but I am done with go-pros. I couldn't find any reason for the cases to leak and take on water. No sand, dirt, hair or tears in the gaskets. but the memory cards are good and I will try to post some pics or a short video when I get time

We are trying for Bonaire again this weekend. Leaving from a larger airport to improve our odds of not having problems. Bought a sealife camera that better hold up better than the gopros. I will post pics or a couple videos when we return, really looking forward to getting back under the water.

As a side note, if you have plane problems and the airline tries to send you elsewhere and tell you they will make it right, the will not. Just take the loss of vacation time and go home. We were told by the staff at the airport, and on the plane that the airline would take care of us when we got back from the substitute trip they gave us. The airline told us their employees should have never sent us anywhere and that if we had gone home instead they would have reimbursed us for everything. the only thing they did was pay for our rental car that had been paid for and gave us miles on our account.

Typical airline tactics , tell us what we want to hear to get you away from
the counter . Then when it comes to any type of compensation it just does
not pan out your way . Good luck on this try to Bonaire ! The diving can be
great if you can get there . Happy diving .
