Well flow doesn’t matter to me. I have about 340 total gallons. All I care is tanks get 2-3 turn over hour. Silence is way more important.

Based on what you wrote, I'm guessing you are between 2-3meters of head. You should be ok. You won't hear the pump. I hear the water flow through the pipes more than the pump itself. It sounds like a shower is constantly running in the house (not very loud). My scenario was very different.

So I don’t think it’s under much pressure. Yes hard plumbed but switching over to 1 inch silicon hose up out of sump to see if it helps. I’m going to plumb the 6000 in to the same line to see how it does.

You’ll find when you add the silicone tubing bridging between the hard plumbing, it will help a little. Which Sicce model do you have?
Keep us informed on how well the new pump will stack up against the Sicce.

I'm glad to hear MD communicating well with other customers. I think that higher pump upgrade will help your plumbing setup.

MD has been working with me, too. I sent back pump controller and should receive replacement later today. I recorded video in case they wanted to hear humming noise issue and see auto shutoff feeding button wasn't working. But calling them and explaining problems was enough to start RMA process.

Agree. Pleasantly surprised. I hope the pump will help. I’ll also modify the plumbing. I’ll post results when I get the pump.

Controller arrived, connected and powered on. OMG! It's quiet again, no more humming sound. And auto-feeder shut off button works, too!

Despite shipping issues, in the end, everything worked out. All my fish are accounted for and appear well.

Thanks to Christian for all his help during the whole RMA replacement transaction! I'm happy again.

Not surprised. The units are very quiet. If you are not dealing with a lot of head loss, they are quite good. Still waiting for the larger unit to arrive in stock at MD.

As a CON, what about impeller replacement? could not find any.

Wonder what their bearing set up is like on the impeller.

I want to go DC but its hard to beat an Iwaki for a basement pump that's been running a decade with no issue at all.

I ended up going with a Sicce SDC 9.0.
It is a larger pump -- but identical power draw at 85Watts.
The aquamax Magnus 9000 was producing a flow rate of 278G/Hr.
The Sicce was producing about 510 G/hr.

I'm going to work on the plumbing of my return to reduce head loss.

That said. The aquamax is quieter for sure. The Sicce generates more vibration along the the pvc pipes. I think some of that can be solved by adding a piece of silicone tubing at the exit of the pump. Both are decent pumps.

Yep I have the sicce also and it’s loud. I’m not happy with it. Low loud hum. I’ve even used a silicon hose to try to take the hum out. I’ll be selling it as soon as the bigger aqua max is in stock again.

I don't think I would call it loud. It is about as loud as my vortechs. It is just noticeable. The aquamax was dead silent. That said, I am running the Sicce at full power and it is moving a lot more water and it is more efficient from a power stand point. I probably should back off the Sicce to the same flow rate for a comparison. Magnus 12000 will consume 150 Watts in comparison to 85 Watts. The 12000 is rated for higher flow, but I found it drops off faster with head loss.

I think the aquamax is great for an under the tank application. I'm not sold on the basement sump application quite yet.

Adding on to the Sicce SDC 9 commentary...

Just hooked mine up tonight, replacing my trusty Mag 18 in hopes of reducing heat generation for the coming summer. Also, like the efficiency, controllability, and slow-start.

But it is loud. A very low thrum sound. I have vinyl hose connections to hard plumbing and will try silicone hose to see if it helps. If not, it is going back. A shame tho; I like the pump otherwise.

What are the differences from the first Gen and the G2 series?

Sunpole made refinements to the motor so the pumps are a smidge larger but the specs are otherwise the same in terms of wattage, flow rate, etc. The biggest improvement is the 0-10V universal port that you can use to connect the pumps to an external aquarium controller, like Neptune Systems Apex!

Update, controller had a malfunction, Power button wouldn't turn off the pump. Ironically, the Feed button still worked. Since I recently tore down my 250 Gal. and sold most equipment, I didn't bother contacting Marine Depot about it, just e-waste recycled the controller.

Unfortunately, that's twice in two years that something went wrong with the controller for this DC pump. I hope most others have had better reliability than what I experienced.
