I'm definitely going to try out that ball valve idea.
Nice Build!

Thanks. I'll put the source files up as soon as I am finished putting them together. I have been through many iterations of the valve (about 18 months of tinkering on the design) and am pretty confident they are good to go. But want to get the final version up and running before sharing the files, just incase there is something missed.

I had to make some space on my phone today and caught that I had a couple other progress pics from the valve build.

Here are the assembled balls after sanding.

Here they are after being brushed with acetone. Once the part gets sanded, if it is not brushed with acetone it won't vapor polish correctly (or at all). Sanding and brushing with solvent alone can provide a pretty decent finish. But its not quite as nice as what you get with a good vapor polishing.

Here are some smaller parts being vapor polished. The setup is pretty basic, but it gets the job done.

How long do you leave the parts in the vapor polishing "machine"? That looks like a mad scientist experiment

They stay in until the surface looks mostly smooth; typically just a couple of minutes. Things generally don't smooth out entirely in the vapor bath, but they will continue to "polish" for several minutes after being removed from the vapor while the solvent dissipates from the surface. So its something close to the final surface finish I look for before pulling them out.

This is something that is more art then science (at least with a crude setup like this) as the surface and temperature of the part prior to going into the bath has a fairly significant impact on how long the polish takes.

I hope you realize what you've created. I'm soon to be the most annoying question asker in the world as I have nobody else to reference when it comes to 3d printing :-P

I use solidworks since a long time. I find it easy to mill on a 5 axis cnc machine. But there are some limitations to the geometry. Professional 3d prints cost a fortune. Never had a go for diy printers.
Surely tagging.

Way to go mate.
Good luck

Thanks.

CNC is on the dream list of tools. I don't need something as fancy as what you work with. But would like to build something to do flat work with plywood. I have many design ideas I would like to explore using interlocking plywood pieces to build mid-century'ish furniture.

If you don't mind me asking, what part of India are you in? I have traveled a bit across India for work. Just curious if I might have been in the same area at one point or another.

I here it is quite nice there, but unfortunately that is not a part of the country I have been in. Maybe at some point in the future I'll get the chance.

Sure mate! You can be our guest. Will take you to the southern most part of the country where a reef exist. Mostly indo Pacific region, a lot of local stuff is poached. Corals are banned in India. Even imports via sites are restricted. One can't possess or keep a coral legally. But you might know how thing work here.
I'm visiting that place in third week of April. Will post stuff if I'm alive or not jailed. (just kidding)
Apologies I don't wanna hijack this thread, let's stick back to the topic.

Now that's a cool idea for the PC boards

I never thought about scribing the resist away

I have tried milling them directly with limited success

This is most radical man! Subscribed and ordered a 3D printer. Is that a surge device? Sorry if I missed the function.

Took too long to get the kid to bed, so it seems I can't fix the links in my original posts. So here are the images (I hope). Should be in the same order.

I know many use it, and I have considered it but haven't tried it yet. I have been hesitant as from what I have read online it has a limited shelf life once mixed, the tin coat can be quite thin and that it is prone to wiskering between closely spaced traces. This has kept me from trying it; especially the shelf life issue as I don't do PCBs very often.

It probably provides a brighter nicer finish then what I am using and is likely a bit easier to solder to. But for the cost and shelf stability I pretty happy with the Oatey product at the moment. But a may give this a go down the road.

Yes, the valves are for a surge system. In the early posts I have some pics of the overall setup and you can see the surge tank in them; its a 20 gallon long mounted above the display tank. The plan is to run two of these valves on an alternating cycle, dumping water in opposite ends of the tank.
