Can I stop the recession on my Flower Pot?

I have a metallic green flower pot. I added it 11/8. I've noticed it seems to be receding in a few spots. Appearing in the area where the polyps no longer appear is what looks like a red algae. What is that? I realize these are not easy to keep. Just curious if there is something specific RC can suggest to help? Would a dip or anything help? Or is this just par for the course when it comes to trying to keep these?

As you said...not easy to keep, par for the course...
Better chance with aquacultured, if you want to try again

Is this an indication of the beginning of the end?
