Wonder if they'll do large enough for a 10' tank and beat Maxspect's 180?

I hope so. If they use their RW-20 motors, they should be able to move a lot of water.

I'm glad to hear this. I got in on the Jebao WP wavemakers early and although they had some start up issues, they certainly got better as time went by. I also got in at the begining of the Jebao DC pumps (you'd think I'd learn, right?). But every DC pump I got has worked perfectly for a couple of years now.
I've seen a couple of the gyre systems in use and I think they are a nice change from wavemakers. But the Maxspect stuff is so crazy over priced! I'll wait for the rush to buy from Jebao has passed and then buy. After all, my WP40's and WP10's are all working just fine, thank you.

I'm excited. Anyone have any info? Pics or anything?
Is it going to look exactly like the mqxspect? Like the same molds and stuff? To me the RW (knockoffs) don't have anything in common with the vortecs other than they both have magnets. So id imagine the design won't be identical but who knows.

The RW's and WP's were more a knock off on Tunze in my opinion. Excited to see what that got brewing as well.

The Gyre are chinese made too. And pretty crappily made. I got rid of mine.
So in this instance, I don't see how a Jaebo could be any worse. Hopefully they can improve on it.

Is the Gyre design that much better than say 2 RWs?

Depends on tank / rock layout to be honest.
We have two RWs in our frag tank on the same wall pointing down the tank synced. Will probably add their Gyre on the far wall to help out. Can be some low flow all the way down there.

Just a quick read of copyright / patent infringement enforcement in the PRC (people's republic of China) info from a few websites will give you an idea of how a lawsuit will do nothing but cost ecotech, or maxpect money and do nothing to deter jebao.
I thought this little excerpt was particularly funny: In March 1992 Chinese authorities found that Shenzhen reflective materials institute had copied 650,000 Microsoft Corporation holograms. The institute was found to be guilty of trademark infringement against Microsoft, but was fined a mere US $252. Losses to Microsoft as a result of the infringement are estimated at US $30 million.[8] I am a fan of jebao and use their wp, rw, dc pump, and doser. And I for one hope they keep making and improving products and selling them to us hobbiests at amazingly cheap prices. |

Whoever invented the squirrel cage blower should have sued Maxxspect. For that matter, why not sue them over having programmable LED lights? Ecotech thought of that first. Why do Android smartphones exist? Apple should have sued them into the ground. I'm not clear on how copyright law works, but it seems like even in the US that broad concepts like these aren't well protected.

The entire patent system is screwed up in many ways. I disagree with a lot of the things that are able to get protection. Consumers pay double the price increase for the company to be greedy and then more to pay for the lawsuits. That ALL said I am exicted for this and hope the price point is lowered. I like my gyre now that I got the rugged blades but find the controller lacking and the company to be slow to adapt. Jebao might not have customer service either but you can buy a second or third unit for same as one of the bigger names.

I like the vortechs and tunze. Haven't tried the jaebos.
I really liked the idea of the gyre, just wasn't a fan of the execution... not one bit. Maybe for half the price.

I support Jebao. Most pet product manufacturers take their customers for a ride on everything they sell, the margins are ridiculous. It's good to have affordable equipment so anyone can enjoy the hobby.

No, I don't see why people want to spend money in these poorly design pumps. Gyre flow is nothing new and it can be easily achieved with powerheads (in your case 2 RWs), and if you don't like it you can till use the same powerheads to create a different type of flow.
I still remember when the DIY maximods started poping, people were using them to create gyre flow and of course you got a ton of people saying that gyre flow wasn't enough for our tanks. Now a company makes a pump that looks different, creates some fancy videos about how beneficial gyre flow is and everyone "needs" one. Last edited by ganjero; 10/27/2015 at 06:55 AM. |
