It works well but just as you said difficult to get the foam hight right.
That is why I added the extra elbow on the inner stand pipe so I have a quick visual check. but still, difficult.Once it is set it works nice. I might add a valve later.

Temporary ghetto!
I have a small 10g AIO in my office lit with LEDs. The enclosure for the LED array is mounted on an articulating arm intended for use as a surround sound speaker mount. It's convenient because I can tilt the light up and out of the way if I need to put my hands in the tank. What's not convenient is that the tensioner on the arm requires an alan wrench. Something happened to the one I had in my office, and the other day, I needed to get in the tank. I swiveled the light up, and that apparently loosened the tension on the arm, because when i was done, the light sagged all the way down onto the tank. Without my alan wrench, what was I to do? Pen caps obviously

Before you guys get your panties in a bunch, look at the pic again.
see it? no? There IS water in the tank. -When the fire starts, the water in the tank will put it out. I don't see a problem. |

Yeah and I meant ketchup too.
Katchup packs are those that you got in school because the district was too cheap to buy the good stuff. |

After reading this whole thread and laughing hysterically
I realized I belong.
First is my temporary tank that was leaking from the factor bulkhead, so I just used a towel to contain the puddle...you just need to top off more often. Also when you can't find anything to hang your lights from then just use some chairs. (lights are not pictured) So you like the Rubbermaid so much that you reuse it but this time you throw in a hot pink storage bin, a milk crate and why not add a half a 5 gal bucket as a return chamber. I like destroying perfectly good items too. From this picture of my brand new stand you can see where I cut out holes for the reef ready overflow that didn't match, and you can also see the hole I cut in the factor support before adding braces. My canopy is by far the ugliest part of the setup currently. I have closet hanger brackets holding the MH's and a crooked PVC frame for the LED's and a piece of cardboard with posters on one side and insulated foil on the other. See how much heat you can get in a small area? I unfortunately am not satisfied with any of my "rigged" items and will be fixing all of them...at some point.

This thread is great, I don't have anything too ghetto, except for one of my return pumps the return tubing I had was a bit too big to fit. So using a hand full of PVC pieces of varying diameters, and large amounts of hot glue/super glue I managed to make it all fit together.
