Why do you want to keep it separate

I'm keeping it separate because of the sw wear and tear on the pumps and my only other option was to tear up a ton of concrete and tap into toilet drainage 25 feet away. This also opens it up for the future should I have water problems in basement as my current sump pit is on other corner of basement.

I made it about half way around hole so hoping I can get rest drilled out tomorrow! Once I'm done with that I'm thinking the remainder of the work will be easier. Basin is 18x22 so will have a lot of buckets to carry up and pour out.

Goal is to have sump pit in and plumbed by weekend! Next big thing is wiring and going to have to recruit my buddy who is electrician.

I created a thread on salt used in large reef tank systems so if you have a large reef tank please respond to poll with answers to template. Should be a great knowledge share !

More power!

No more of this and using angle grinder, hammer drill, and sledgehammer.

Now to the big boy

Reminds me of when I cut holes in my foundation for my HRV ducts. I spent 3 hours with my hammer drill to make my holes like you first tried; burnt out the drill in the process. Finally rented a demo-drill. I was done in 5 minutes flat. Lol.

The right tools make the job just that much easier!

Yeah, self reflecting on it I ended up paying ~$60 for the jackhammer and can say I spent less than five minutes actually using the jackhammer! The right tool always makes the job easier but unfortunately I don't have a warehouse of each tool at disposal! I've got a fair share of tools but definitely don't have the jackhammer on the list!

Luck?

Although I had to rent jackhammer I had some good and bad luck today....

Glass sump got shattered while doing the job as it was just right of the jackhammering I only spent $50 on it but was just about to draw up design and get all the baffles in place. Guess now I'll go back to original plan and build an acrylic sump exactly to how I want it! Hopefully I can get that designed over weekend as I'm planning on picking up quite the shopping list at PA on Saturday and was hoping to get a large amount of plumbing supplies to start plumbing the frag tank and stand...

Good luck was that I ran into a sewage drain that runs into my ejector pump. Long story short, I get to return about $500 worth of sump pumps, battery, basin, sand, etc! I ended up just teeing into the existing pipe and now I have a 2 inch drain running up. Once concrete settles in and dries I can get paint in place and get a few more things checked off the list. CHECK THE DRAINAGE DILEMNA OFF THE LIST!

Pics of pipe for drainage and concrete slowly drying.

Jack hammer made it a breeze. Now once it dries/cures I can paint it to match the floor I just recently painted....Off to further research on what I'm adding to the shopping list for PA on Friday! (Don't think I'll be buying any LED lights yet as I've got other focuses that I need to do to get water in tank before I consider another light!)

Back to the reef...

Past couple days has been tied up with the holiday get togethers, shopping, and decorating. Glad to say we got 90% of our shopping done and ready to focus on my reef again

Today my goal was; 1) Make forward progress on sink and 2) get order into PA before thanksgiving sale expires at midnight today! I also picked up 80 pounds of live rock off CL for a great deal that has been in a tank for 8 years and crawling with critters!

Goal 1 I was able to get the pex ran and mounted to wall as well as painted the pit and got fauced mounted. Tomorrow night I'll have to plumb the drain mount the sink to floor, and hook the hot/cold water lines in!

Copper to Pex transition:

Sink position and faucet installed with pex mounted behind:

To show proximity sump will be right between the sump/QT/Frag tank so perfect place for cleaning!

Brute holding my live rock with heater, 2500 GPH of PHs, and bubblers at bottom. No light on it now but should I put something over it?

Dry Rock I picked up from Jeremy B. at Premium Aquatics week before last when I went and checked out the LED fixtures. Think I'm convinced on the Radions with the continued feedback! I plan to use dry rock in DT so this will just have to sit for a while but want it to remain dry so I can easily aquascape the DT once it is up and running! (Also prevent hitchikers from the live rock from entering DT and frag tank.)

...more progress

I got what I hoped to have done tonight and got 1) sink mounted and plumbed and 2) RO/DI Unit mounted in place above sink. Currently awaiting reply from Vertex on booster pump as it has leak on housing so seeing if I can get black casing as it seems to be manufacturer defect. Once I can get that resolved I'll likely look to add a second membrane so I can turn it from a 100 gpd unit to 200 gpd unit Anyone happen to have the 200 gpd vertex RO/DI unit so I can see how it hooks up?

RO/DI Unit hung and Sink mounted in:

Plumbing to sink. Pex had to be reduced to 1/2" for sink and rubber weighted ball is for the sprayer as I figured it'd be handy for cleaning equipment:

Working on getting sump design drawn up tonight...Not sure I'm going to be able to make decision on it yet but I'm at least updating my Google Sketchup drawings I've not touched in a while...

Sunday night I ordered following from Premium Aquatics:
- 2 X Reeflo Snapper/Dart Pumps (Will likely set them up to be snapper for now and convert to Dart later)
- 3 X Eheim Jager 300 Watt heaters
- Top Apex Neptune Model
- 3 Buckets of Red Sea Coral Pro Salt
- 3 Buckets of Red Sea Coral Regular Salt
- Ground Probe (No getting shocked on this tank!)

If they get back to me soon I will be getting 240 lbs of CaribSea Sugar sized sand for DSB and 50 lbs of live sand on Saturday to get the sand/rock in the refugium to let it start seeding the sand bed and maturing...

Latest pic of basement drawing up sump. I hope to have sump drawn up tonight so I can get evaluation from RCers!

Still waiting on PA to get back to me on sand I requested inventory on Monday!

I've got 2 ReeFlo snapper hybrids I'm picking up from PA Saturday. Anyone happen to know if you can rotate the housing 90 degrees so I can point the outlet to the side rather than up?

Thanks in advance! Trying to draw up sump design and this would give me some more options!

Why do you want the outlet rotated?

Looks good so far!

I posted this question in the equipment forum and they said that it could be rotated. I want it rotated so I can more cleanly route the plumbing by the sump!

why using 2 pumps instead of 1 hammerhead gold (5555 gph)? do you have plumbing diagram perhaps?

I'm working on drawings and thinking through it at the moment. I'm building a large system and considering redundancy and no single points of failure. A return pump is one of the most critical components to getting water from DT/Frag tank to various filtration systems so if it fails, my system fails.

With going with two pumps I can pull one out of picture with proper valve configuration and ship off for repair and also can remove one for cleaning. Make sense?

!00% agree on return pump..i always keep spare one

well, i am in a process of designing my future system. i should have around 500 g of total water so i figure i use one hammerhead to feed DT/FT and a few reactors and keep one spare pump on a side.. Sometimes its PITA to adjust 2 pump working together .
Your thoughts..

Cannot say I've ran two pumps in this manner in past. Time will tell and if I have to adjust then I will. The way in which I'm plumbing would allow me to run just one if needed. I did not finish drawings yet but hope to finish tonight/tomorrow....
