Cleaning wo scratching the glass
What is the trick to cleaning the glass with out creating scratches. I use a scratch pad that they sell for cleaning tanks. It's on a long handle. Walmart sells them. But I seem to be scratching the hell out of my tank glass. I try to make sure I dont get it near the sand. Just curious if theres a better way.

Flipper gets the algae on one side and has a razor on the other side for getting Coralline off

I have a few trochus snails that clean about 90% of the algae on the glass. It’s a smaller tank though so I don’t need many

THe Tunze cleaner (not cheap) is one of the best for not trapping sand.

I made my own scrapper, i think the store bought ones are way over priced and if the blade gets dull its history. I do also use mag floats for the easy to remove algae.
I used a oak dowel rod 3/8" dia then cut it 8" longer then my deepest tanks depth so id have spare should i ever need to shorten & modify it. I then cut a slanted notch of apprpx 20degrees angle at the end & inserted a X-acto blade in it after wiping the oil off the blade. Placed gel CA on it & whalla it works as well or better then any store bought ive used & cost under a buck. Some of these specialized tank items are just a foolish waste of money unless you have more cash then you know what to do with. The oak also bows if pushed too hard so no worry about scratching glass under strain. |

I thought what? Ok so i grabbed an old stiff CC from my safe i don't use (keeps fico up tho) & i tried it on my pink coralline on the back wall............Nothing, nada, was like trying to remove paint from a wall using a pc of paper. Razerblade took it right off like crumbly bread crust on toast. Id have to see a video of a CC actually removing encrusting coralline to believe it at this point since i just tested that application.

Agree. Credit card is for the normal glass cleaning not the coralline. Razor blade for the hard stuff, but every week or day cleaner the cc is a champ.
