My Philippine Regal Angel just died

I just found my Philippine Regal Angel dead in his tank. A couple of days ago I noticed that he wouldn't come out to eat anymore and hang out with the cleaner shrimps.

I had that fish for 5 years. It was a rescue, half starved to death when I get him. He had grown a lot and was doing fine until just a few days ago.

Now it's to figure out what has caused his death...

Just a total guess but if he were a rescue there was probably some internal damage/issues from before you got him. I know we humans have chronic health issues that can eventually catch up with us.

In a way I kind of hope he died of something other than a parasite or pathogen. At least that would mean that all the other fish in that system are safe. It contains 7 of my anemonefish pairs, among other 3 of my percula pairs, the bicinctus, and the milii.
My biggest worry is that something slipped by the quarantine, but so far no other fish seems to have anything.

Another really frustrating aspect about this is that just two weeks ago I got a tiny baby Philippines Regal Angel which I intended to pair with him.
That little guy is so far only eating pods. I got a good deal of Tigger pods but I really need him to also go after frozen and flake food. Since I'm back to one blue chest I might see to get another little one and see if I can raise them together.

Have you tried Golden Pearls or Hikari Marine S pellets?

No, just mysis and flakes. He is picking pods almost like mandarin, but he also picks them out of the water column.

The little Philippine regal is by now eating flakes and Mysis and started gaining weight.
And 3 weeks ago I got another, even tinier baby Philippine regal. That one is roughly an inch and a quarter long, while the first is about 1-3/4.
After incarcerating the first one for a while in a breeder box (that's where he finally picked up eating Mysis and flakes) they are in the same tank without killing each other, though the smaller one gets chased to the back upper level of the tank (it's a Nuovo 20 dropoff tank).

The regals don’t seem to mind each other. Did you have to separate your newer Percula pair?

No, the female developed a weird growth on her lower jaw and died.

That’s a bummer. Wonder what it was. I’ve had a Percula and Maroon clowns develop white spots on their lower jaws that went away on their own. They weren’t thick and took about 2-3 weeks to go away.

That is a nice clown.
The Regal angels seem to be doing well. They will eat well in no time.
