HELP!! Looking to frag rainbow pectinia

Hey guys im thinkig of fragging small piece of my rainbow pectinia for a friend my question is do i have to frag a piece with an eye/mouth . I have also read that you glue or stick in the sand the cut part of the frag down so the wound is covered. I understand that but what about the mother colony. Can I leave the mohter colony wounds exposed.
