Large sump advice

I'm setting up a 270 dt with 120 (4×2×2) gallon sump. I want to section off a 20 g section of the sump as a fuge. Instead of putting in baffles, what is the downside to putting an extra 20h i have sitting around inside the 120? Its the dimensions i want for the fuge. Option 2 is to take apart the 20h and use the glass for the baffles.

Am I making a mistake doing this the easy way?

You can definitely do that. It'll be much easier too.

It will work. The only drawback might be flow thru the fuge tank. Usually 1 baffle is lower then the other.

If the definition of a refugium is “refuge from predators”, then a sump is already a refugium. Refugiums do not need to be lite. My mud / cryptic sponge refugium is crawling with worms, pods, micro stars and lots of sponges and filamentous stuff. Yes, I used it as a mud / macro refugium for 24 yrs. After seeing the benefit of cryptic sponge filtration, I have embraced it. I use ornamental macro in display tank for nutrient export and
refugium for nutrient recycling.
