Neoprene Mat in Sump?

Is it safe to place a neoprene mat in the sump underneath the return pump to keep it in one place? Last go-round my return would shimmy to the sides and there was a annoying rattle.

If not, any suggestions?

Should be totally safe. I used my girlfriends old yoga mat and cut it down to size. The only issue I have is that it wasn’t her old yoga mat..it was her new one. They were the same color so instead of asking I just went for broke. Oops!

Bill, that’s awesome - I could see me making the same mistake! Thanks for your input

You’re welcome! I remember showing her the sump and she goes...”is that my new yoga mat?!” I said no, it’s your old one, which causes her to grab her old one and say, “This one?”

Cue a few hours of dirty looks haha

I use I silicone kitchen hot pad under my return. The neoprene may start to break down eventually

+1. Also I don’t think most yoga mats are neoprene, I think they are usually PVC, but some are rubber.

FWIW, I use an old yoga mat under the sump, cut big enough that it folds about 2” up each wall to contain minor spills. Lots of good uses for old yoga mats, or just cheap ugly ones on clearance.
