And the frag system is running, picking up three 8 bulb 54 watt t5 fixtures for the system in a few weeks.

This build is incredible. I love the documentation of the fish room build as well as watching your sps tank fill out and mature. Nicely done! Quick question: I'd like to do a DIY T5 setup at some point and I'm wondering where you got your T5 fixtures?

Mine is the Aquatic life T5 Retrofit, has rubber end caps that seal the bulb ends, and you can get them for any watt you'd prefer. You'll need to pick out some reflectors to buy separately is all. Got mine from a local reefer who didn't use then for very long. I still plan on getting another set though and go to 8 bulbs eventually.

Here where the red lines are where I'll be adding 4 more bulbs...mine are 39 watt bulbs also if that helps.

Thank you! Do you know if they are UL listed? I'm having a hard time figuring that out. If I put a couple of these into a wood canopy I'd want to make sure they're UL listed before I do.

I'm not sure, I just hung mine from an aluminum framework so no chance of the frame burning.

nice set up!

I had an idea for covering the back of the tank so as to not see the fish room from the front. I am not sure what a shadow box is. But an option i would try would be to use a plaun white roll up window shade with a cheap led strip shooting upwards towards it for effect. then u would still be able to see in from both sides when u want to and put the shade down afterwards.

I plan on making the shadow box removable. Google shadow boxes for aquariums, should give you an idea of what I'm going for.

Well, kept getting large pockets of co2 in the reactors so I tapped the lids.

Subbed

Is there a difference in growth and growth pattern between LEDs and T5s? I'm running LEDs (AI Hydra 26HD) and I dont see a lot of growth. Wondering why that is.
My soft corals seems to be growing fine.

I like a mix of the two, LED's and t5s, they cut back on a lot of shadowing as t5 lighting will cover better.
