Ada 16g mixed reef
Hey guys!
I've been out of this hobby for at least 6 years. So I was gone for good amount of time...but I'm back! It's going to be mixed reef with Montis, GSP, wars, brains, and other softie, lps variety focused tank with least amount of fish. (Probably maximum 5 nano fish in the tank) Due to out of budget I start with cheaper options but whenever I have chance .. hopefully I can upgrade to decent equipments. So equipment list are Ada 60p (16gal) Coral life marine hang on filter (With bioball as filter media) Current USA led 24" 1 hydor koralia nano powerhead 1 hydor koralia 450gph powerhead Aquaeon preset 100w heater Sumpkorea auto top Livesand caribsea aragonite Bahamas Vertex aquaristik puratek ro/di filter Dry rock 25 lbs Any tips or whoever lives near los angeles k-town reefers are welcome! 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

Water has been cleared out from setting..
Changed some rock positions for future corals. Also I tried biospira from instant ocean on day 4. Has anybody used this product before? Been trying to raise my p.h by buffer everyday.. So does calcium, magnesium.. those of you who don't have automatic diffuser how many times you add the buffer per weak? Depends on live stock quantity So far, tank is aged for week! And I'm still not getting algae for cycle... getting impatient.. before when I set up 55gal f/o tank, it took only 4 days to get some algae.. now even I get sun light little bit during day, I get 0 algae.. not sure why! ( I used only ro water for 55 gal tank maybe that's why?) Any tips anyone? 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

I like the new setup.
I’d give things some time based on your fish additions (month minimum)and make sure to test your water daily for the nitrogen cycle. Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates. I’d also personally not chase a PH number without knowing you KH. Adding PH buffer blindly could result in a very high alkalinity without your knowledge. Don’t worry, the algae is on its way. Haha |

New addition...
Klein's butterflyfish and yellow watchman goby I think I made huge mistaking bring butterflyfish To my tank. I researched about him and he was reef safe (most likely with caution). But moment he entered my aquarium he was eating all the algae and my green star polyph.. he don't touch the ricordea corals tho.. Should I take him out? He is so healthy and so pretty not sure what I should do 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

Does it matter when hes juvenile?
I would never put adult size in my tank but he was tiny.. He seems happy so far and hes less than an inch.. so I thought it would be ok for at least 6 months. Am i being cruel to this animal? Is it wrong to do? Let me know pls 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

Added some new corals.
Torch, and xenia Everything good except one small clownfish died.. Water parameter, temperature, salinity was perfect not sure what was the cause.. Before he dies he seems to have swim bladder disease.. i went home from work and saw big clown was trying to bite him to death so i separated small one in container with flow in but next day he died.. so sad.. And I thought green star polys were eaten by Klein's butterflyfish but apparently this guy don't bothers coral at all.. maybe because he is tiny? Anyway hope I add hammer and some zoanthid corals next time 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

OP, I hope I don’t come out sounding too harsh but there’s a reason you had this much trouble ever since starting your tank.
Please research your fish selection , and in turn filtration and everything else related. A butterfly and then a blue tang in 2ft x 1ft tank? I have the same tank, the ADA60P, there are far better choices for it as far as fish go , and no matter how small the fish are when you buy them, they grow fast , stress and die because of unfavorable conditions. Here’s a short list of suitable livestock for this tank: -clowns (percula or occelaris) -wetmorella wrasse (possum wrasse) -some blennies (research care requirements) -shrimp -snails And adjust number based on filtration. Got minimal filtration, no sump, no skimmer...well 1 fish really. Add skimmer and sump, maybe 3-4 max. Good luck to you! |

I just need to move out. And I knew it but it wasImpulse purchase. Typical newbie's mistake. It's a typical phase that long of people go through. I knew those fishes shouldn't keep in small tanks like this, I added live stock too fast, no qt, my filteration and water management was awful than now (At least now I dont kill anything and see softies, lps, sps coral thriving except torch that's damaged from adding too much stuff when I was having velvet) I just had no knowledge. But anyway, now I know it's not good. I do feel really bad for fishes that I killed. I started this hobby because I loved fishes not corals. Imagine whenever they die. I dont feel good of course. but we learn from mistake. I think I can be more responsible pet owner than before. For blue tang I need to find a good local reefer. Realistically its just hard to find who has 180g+ 8ft tank. In real life most of reefer tend to keep fishes in smaller space than what actually fish need you know. And compare to nature 8ft is still small for them. There are some big tanks in local but on their tank, fish has settled for long time and they are territorial etc.. I just dont want to send him to the tank who has 3+inch tangs in their tank. He will get bullied and die since hes tiny. Anyway While I'm searching for new home im try to feed him 2 times a day with full spectrum pellets, mysis, algae brine shrimp, and 1 sheet nori to graze all day. As for now he dont show aggression or stressed movement, just swimming around slowly but I know it's beyond small for him. Wish me luck find his new home. And hope next thread is much less mistakes and better 나의 SM-G950U 의 Tapatalk에서 보냄 |

I have the same tank with similar setup; I have a small koralia powehead running with an aquaclear hang on filter running for 2 years now. You do not need a sump or a skimmer.
Although i do not necessarily agree with u on the butterfly or tang selection, i think you are doing a good job so far with your corals. They are nice, easy lps and softies that dont need a skimmer or extra water volume so long as you are good with water changes. Clowns and different gobies are good choices for this size tank Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk |
