Lighting question

First post

I am a long time lurker first time posting. I have been reading a lot of threads in here about lighting a reef tank which helped me narrow down my choices on which light I will be using on a 100gal (48" L X 24" W X 18 H) with focus on SPS. My 2 choices are either 8bulb ATI PM Hybrid or 3 Radion XR30 Pros. I was originally leaning towards the ATI however after reading the entire thread on the PM Hybrid club I found out that there are currently some issues with the unit like bad ballast, defective controller and Time resetting when the unit is unplugged. I am now leaning towards the Radions. Should I take the plunge with Radions or should I stick with the ATI?

I'd probably go with the Radions but would consider starting with two and adding a third if you feel you need it.

$400 worth of lights for $2400? Enjoy!

Any reason you would not want to go with your own hybrid? I like the suggestion of two radions, but most of what I have read lately is hybrid T5 and LED. You could add 2-4 54w retrofit t5's which would take care of shadowing issues that I have heard about with SPS dominant tanks lit with only LED's. More wires, etc, which will not look as clean if you don't have a canopy. That would be the trade off.

I am not planning on putting a hood over the tank. If I'm going with a Hybrid, I'll go with ATI due to the unit having only 1 cord.

+1 for radions as well, although pricewise they are not very friendly. Bragging rights though...

it's not so much about the price since in the long run it will be cheaper to run Radions compared to having T5 lights. I guess it is settled...im going for the Radions Thanks!!
