Well done, sir. I'll have to head to a LFS to pick one up!

I was pretty excited to see a large article on NPS coral in the Reef Hobbiest magazine and i just now realized that your the one that wrote it. Great work! Your coral all look nice and healthy.

I agree 100% with you on the subject of the black sun coral (Tubastraea micranthus). I have some that i got in pretty good condition and it really needed some encouragement to get it to start feeding at first. Once i got it on my regular feeding schedule it seems to be fine with being feed the same as other sun coral.

On the subject of your spawning coral. Do you use any kind of moon lighting? I have not been able to get my coral to spawn as of yet but that is the ultimate compliment a captive coral can give you. Great job!

Trichome - thanks. I follow your thread for updates!

I have a T5 that has moonlights and I control my A360 to have "moonlighting" (lowest intensity and 20K spectrum). However, the spawning occurs in the evening before lights out (go figure).

I also noticed that after the spawning the same coral grew like 5 more heads - not sure if the events are related. I'll post some pic's when I get a chance.

Looks really nice! Love your OS tang as well. How tall is your tank?

thanks, the OS tang is one of my favorites - eats right out of my hands and lets me pet him during feeding.

The tank is 30 inches tall - bit of a maintenance hassle.

Hey Noy

I'm missing more and more feedings with my large sun coral and as such they dont open on a regular schedule as I once had them trained. More high maintenance now priming them to open with a squirt, then wait....and when they finally open, I have to fight off the tangs and shrimp. Wanna trade? I think we're local to each other. I'm just east of Scarborough in Pickering.

You've got some amazing photos in here Noy! What is this one? Is it photosynthetic or non-photosynthetic?

Looks nice. How often will you have to feed it, and with what?

If the are true flos, be patient, I've heard they can take a long time to colour up. I'd like to see the pics when you have them.

Fauna Marin - Sea Fan food - 2x a day target feeding. I'm in the process of setting up a gorg tank and this will get moved in there.

Shots of the Efflo
- the polyps are a light green shade - the picture doesn't show the tabling growth real well but there is about 2 inches of grown on that colony

Looks like there is a lot of potential there! I wouldn't say they are brown, look pink really. Are they both the same species of efflo, or are they different?

same species - I picked up both just because they are supposedly on the more difficult side (RTN insurance I guess).

The LFS told me when they first got it I had a blue tinge to it - we'll see where things go.

BTW - did you sell that crazy prostata to a reef shop in Mississauga - could have sworn I seen it last weekend.

I sold it to BigShow (Hydrologist on RC), last time I exchanged messages with him he was planning on keeping the colony intact in one of his frag tanks. I've never been to his place but I think he is based out of Hamilton.

Nice extension on the dendros!

Good luck with the gorg - I think its a Diodogorgia nodulifera

Latest Rescue Project
These started out as having very little skin left sitting at the bottom of a frag tank in a LFS. I noticed they were branching dendros and even though the LFS owner agreed they had at best a week or so life left at their present state - I still had to haggle to get any kind of discount.

After a couple of months the colour came back and I actually recently started to get regular polyp extension and regular feeding. These are 3 separate (small) colonies.

Nice stuff kmbyrnes, those look like Tubastraea coccinea. You should feed it regular (like daily) so that you can restore the tissue between the polyps. Ideally, it should have a full mat of tissue covering the rock between the polyps.
