How to silicone a hidden wall to a tank side (when dry)
I'm struggling with a logistical puzzle. I think I have a solution but I thought I'd open it up for brighter minds.
In my future tank assembly, I build it from the inside out. It's 12' x 9' x 27" with a plywood base, glass sides and a concrete false floor. The concrete floor is ~1" thick and rests on cibderblocks inside the tank. It actually goes in before the sides. The sides go up, and then silicone goes into the gap so the concrete floor also acts as a mid-tank brace for the massive sides. Here's the video of how it all goes together (skip to the tank part): Now- how to apply the silicone without a mess of silicone running down the hidden section of glass under the false floor? I can't access it easily because the concrete has limited window openings and the cinderblocks are in the way! Can't just tape it and remove the tape afterwards. My weird solution: use putty or playdoh on the inside of the side glass plate along a premarked line and tape... so, tape first, then playdoh. When the plate goes up, the playdoh would sit just under the concrete-glass interface without blocking the gap much. It's basically creating a temporary seal for the silicone to settle against instead of dripping down the glass. Will it work? Better way?
