Crash due to temp. What to do with rock?

My apex malfunctioned and my heater got the tank upto 98 degrees. Looks like everything is dead. What can be done with the rock? Can I put it in bin of saltwater and power head and do water changes to save it or am I better off make it “dead” rock and then mixing with some live rock to repopulate?

I don’t plan on setting it back up, so would like to sell the rock, but I don’t want to sell bad rock to someone. Thanks for the help. I had a good 6 year run with this tank. 🥺

What a bummer! Sorry to hear that! Probably best to just set it outside and hose it off and sell it. It could be salvaged but it would take a lot of work. Be sure to look close to see if anything is still surviving.

If you're selling, just rinse it off and dry it, or sell it wet and already live to someone near by. The high temps may have knocked the life back a little, but it wouldn't have killed it off entirely.

What about rocks with dead zoas on them? I heard they can be toxic. How do I deal with those rocks?

Diluted bleach is the only thing that will neutralize Paly toxins. Dilute bleach by 10-20% with"cold" water only no hot water.......... in a bucket and place said rocks in overnite, rinse with clean cool water until clear of bleach, then let rocks just sit in the open & let Mother nature finish cleaning them in a few weeks or longer.

Don't sell anything......yet. Clean up the mess, leave the tank setup as it is. Remove the sand and either clean that or toss it, I would just toss it.

Take the rock out and clean like everyone says.

After a month of so later and the rocks are clean, go inside and see if you still want to fire-sale your stuff.

I bet you will want to start over again.

And if you don't....no worries. hang out the 'for sale' sign.
