Algae turf scrubber algae is thin sheet. Normal?
Been working on trying to get nutrients down in my tank. My algae turf scrubber hasn't done the best but the last couple of weeks it seems like it is doing better. I was cleaning it yesterday and the alage was very "slimey" and was a solid sheet. It was not individual strands but a sheet of algae. Is this a normal thing? Will it pass once the nutrients go down? I can't remember the width or lenght of the screen but would reducing the size of the screen be needed?

What type of light are you using? I'm not sure if its related.
I just build scrubber about 2-3 weeks ago and I have very soft green layer on top of the screen. first I used standard LED and I didn't saw any different after 1 week, now I change the light to full spectrum LED (PINK) and I have nice algae growth (still thin but looks good). My levels drop down, and the algae start to slow down. I start to give more food for the live stock, will see what will happen soon. (60gal+ 20gal sump). |

Algae turf scrubbers work but they require a bit if time to mature. Go over to the Advanved forum on this site and look for answers in a thread dedicated to ATS stuff. Advise there is freely provided but you gotta give some details on your setup to get the most concise guess as to what is going on. Good luck.

The slime algae is from high nutrients/too much light.
Once the nutrients come down some, you will start to see some nice lush GHA. The brown bald spots lead me to believe you have too much light, or they are on for too long(it's called photo saturation). I would cut back on the photo period a bit. Seeing as we have too little info to go on, this is just a guess. Some more info would help: Tank volume Amount you feed Light duration Type of light Size of screen Amount of water being fed over the screen
