I actually only turn the light on during feeding time... And that is only for about 20-30 min max a day. She already has signs of shell rot, so I am trying my best to not increase it . You have a very nice clean up crew going on there. I just recently purchased a pencil sea urchin and it is doing pretty well. Going to buy Tiger Cowry soon for the Girlfriend. No, I don't have a sump... Hopefully the filters and skimmer will help out a lot. That reminds me, I need test the water tonight. Thanks again for the compliments. Do you have any pictures of you setup? |

Feeding little clams?!?
What would you guys do?
The videos are of my Peacock in my 14g tank. Debating to put a clam in the 55g since this one is so much nicer and all she eats is Fiddler Crabs, Nassairus Snails, and hodge podge of cut up seafood they I just drop in the tank. Should I risk it and give her a taste of the clam in the full shell. I am worried if she likes it a lot and figure she can smash bigger shelled objects for better tasting meals... She might go after my Mexican Turbos, Astrea, Queen Conch, and new Tiger Cowry... I know someone said it before, but I think my Mantis Shrimps eat better then me... Those Nassarius snails XD
That's one lively mantis... I love how friendly she is. She's obviously very happy in her home... but I do think you should upgrade to something bigger. 14g is a little on the small side. EDIT: Oh, and about the clam.. idk. IMO, with Mantis shrimp you never know... My Spearer pulls hermits out of their shells, but leaves snails alone...

Might do 180g FOWLR and stick her in there... Ultimate preadator tank... LOL... Except I want a Harlequin Tusk, and a few other deadly invert predators... All of this is still up in the air... But one thing is certain, she will get a new home... |

Jeez dude how many Nas snails are in that tank!? That's insane...
OK, that's cool. Harlequin Tusks are awesome... I'd love to have one.

New 37g acrylic Tank Build for other O. Scy (Aphrodite)
I always knew that her 14g biocube was a temp home until I get something else ready...
Just so happens I was able to get this setup for a really good price: Tank, Stand, Sump, Plumbing, Return Pump... Only thing I need is Lights and a Skimmer... Shouldn't be a problem to pick up these equipment cheap... Probably not going to use any lights at all... And I should have about 4-6 weeks before this thing is up and running. 37g Acrylic in a Vinegar Bath |

If they are hungry enough!!!
Well I went on a one week vacation...
And had my brother feed my Tanks while I was gone. He stop by every 3 days. Apparently, when he fed my peacock in the 55 it was not enough food. He killed both Mexican Turbos, somehow my Tiger Cowry is dead (shell still in one piece, so IDK). And some damsels are missing... But most importantly both Peacock are still alive. Also the one in the 14g molted and survived... Phewwwwww... |

Those Nassarius pictures still make me laugh...
Starfish are awesome. I love my CC starfish... It's unbelievable how hardy they are. It went through two tank crashes ( stirred a DSB too much ), lost all it's chocolate chips, and started melting away... A year later, and it's still alive and growing new chips. I thought that tape measure said ' FatMan' there for a second... lol Vacations are tough.. I always dread it, cause we don't have anyone to feed the tanks or turn on lights. At least the two mantis shrimp made it.

Thanks Man, I am trying to get about 10 different species of star fish in there.
Only one that I might pass on is the green brittle star. They are known to kill fish, and I am worried during the molt period it might. It might creep into the cave. Luckily for me my brother has two reefs tanks too. But we live about 30 mins away from each other. So we take care of each others tanks. Defienetly no, family vacations... LOL |

Yeah... I'd pass on the Green Brittles, too. Even the regular ones can make me weary sometimes... You have to watch them. I had a dwarf lionfish, and I walked into the room to see that it was sitting on the rock, and the star was getting a good grip on it. I had to shoo the lionfish away, and fed the star... My mantis can doze off sometimes ( not kidding ), and not notice what's going on around her... I could see a starfish grabbing her.
I've been looking into live cams for my tanks, so that I can log into my computer and see them from where I'd be staying. I saw someone on here once who had one... You have to be careful with some stars... I know a lot of the Fromias ( I think it's them ) don't live long in tanks. The just don't have enough food. The sand sifters will destroy your sand bed, and then die of starvation after that. I never fee my CC star, mainly because it never takes the food... But also cause I have a macro forest in there, and it spends it's day eating all the good guys.

Yeah, I was looking into the live cams too. Especially when I am out of town for the weekends and vacation. Or just see what they do when nobody is around.
Many many many times. I have seen the one in the 55g wandering around, but when I get close she retreats back to her cave. Is she trying to escape? Who killed my fish? Whats really going on, lol? |

That last picture is a great shot!
If you still have a craze going on, and are wanting MORE stars, , then look for a white CC star. My lfs has some, and they are really pretty, IMO. They're the same as other CC's, but just are much paler. Seems like it would fit your collection of CC's.. since you have the regular and the red.

Those are near impossible to keep unless in VERY established tanks. Even then... I'd do a crap load of research on them.

There are a ton of different types of FROMIA SP. stars that vary massive massive amounts in color, shape and look. All are decent for aquariums as well.

I just noticed that your newest starfish is a BME mod fan. He has a split leg like some of the BME people split their tongue.. or other parts. haha!
