has any one used a decktop for an aquarium controller
with the relative cheap price of desktops now a days has anyone modified one for aquarium controling

The PC would need some kind of I/O card or device in order to do any actual controlling. They are available but for the price of an arduino i don't think it would be worth it. Best option would be to use an arduino that talks with a PC over serial. You can write a GUI or APP that you can use to control the arduino on the PC through serial. I do a variation of this but using ethernet and a web server.

I have to agree a I/O card is going to run about $100 I am sure there is some kind of cheap china made some thing cheaper

thanks for the replies the reason i asked is i have a cnc wood mill i built that yses an old desktop computer to control it and was just thinking that maybe someone had done something with a desktop to modify it for aquarium use James
