Stopped by Tropical Island yesterday on my way through coming home from PA and they had a bunch of ORA stuff (fish and corals) but more importantly they also had Rods Food, not sure of any other place that sells it so I picked up a pack, $25 I think. I remember a thread a while back about Rods Food so I figured I would put it up if anyone is still looking for a place to get it.

(631)732-3620 Is that the number you tried? That's what I have stored on my phone. I'm pretty sure I called them about 1.5 years ago and got an answer.

I got a phone call a few months ago saying that there are new owners, lower prices, etc.... Didn't really notice the lower prices at all. -Hans

Everything is relative. I believe that they did drop their prices, at least a little. The thing is that they were really overpriced before, now they're just a little less overpriced.
I was in there not too long ago. Staff (owner?) was friendly, and they had plenty of stock on hand, but their prices were still out of the norm.

Dropped off my wife at the mall and drove by Carle pl, Bob was just getting back from lunch we got to talking and he give me a quick look inside.
The big waterfall or rain forest display is gone, several of those big tanks and the hex tanks that were used for plants are going to be frag tanks, 1500 gal of marine fish were added on the left side. Other tanks were moved to copiague He said the marine holding capacity is now tripled. Workers were wiring & cleaning all the other FW systems. He found that all the marine and freshwater fish were unheated when he took over. The water temp was about 70. He thinks it will be about 3 more weeks. Oh the shark and big black ray are doing fine. |

Mutts and Butts is really stepping up its game.
It's the closest store to where I live and I am there frequently for odds and ends, but it was always just so so for corals. Now there are lots of very nice sps and lps at reasonable prices. The fish look better too. For the clown fish nuts, they have several ORA varieties including the whitest ones I have ever seen. I've never been a fan of mutant clownfish. There is simply no improving on the beautiful color of a wild type percula, but I must admit some of the dark varieties are pretty cute.
