Are you going to have enough room to shim the stand when you start the leveling process?
Check level when tank is 50% and 100% full.

I don't think I need any shims, tank was pretty flush to the stand and was very leveled when I checked it before I set in place. I also made sure the tile I Just laid out was leveled. But I will take your advise and will level at 50 and 100%.
Thanks |

Hey Rob, you might consider gate valves for the herbie controls. They are easier to make fine adjustments to. I'm using a gate valve on my herbie and it makes life easier.

Try a pool supply or plumbing supply. The better stocked ones will have the quality fittings that reefers crave.

If you running a true Herbie overflow with primary and emergency drains, you will need a gate valve and the primary drains should be tied together, otherwise, you are going to have a tough time trying to balance the overflows. Also, do you plan to oversize the plumbing?

I have to install the hanging cables to the ceiling for my lights, also when I start doing the scape, I would need to step into the tank. I weigh 200lbs and I am hesitant to get in it and crack it. Is it safe?

Sorry, not meaning to derail the current discussion but can you tell me where you got the bottom trim piece at the base of the cabinet. Looks really finished. By any chance did it come from of the big box stores? If so, got a name or link to it?
Thanks. |

Amazon has PVC gates valves made by king brothers in a variety of sizes and they are pretty cheap.

No problem. I would also recommend connecting both primary drains together and using one gate valve to control both. I suspect that if you don't you will end up having problems with the water being too high or too low in one of overflows causing the emergency to kick in or the siphon to draw air, both of which would be noisy. I havent tried what you propose so its speculation on my part, but I know that it can be a pita to replumb once everything is up and running. No harm in trying it though.
If you do combine them, you may want to bump up the pipe diameter after they are tee'd together to handle the combined flow. I can't recall off the top of my head how much flow a 1 inch line can handle, but some Googling will get you an answer. |

Looking forward to hearing how you like the combination of the kessels and the t5s. My tank is the same dimensions and I started with 2 4x80 watt ATI fixture. I had been thinking about adding some leds.

Had a set back, this weekend while I was filling my tank with the water that was in the stock tank where all my livestock was in. We get a call from my mother in-law and found out my father in-law had a heart attack. So I stopped what I was doing, grabbed a few things and we drove to Kaiser in Vallejo. Thank God, he survived. He was transferred to Kaiser in Santa Clara and will be having triple by pass tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon. And we will be driving back up tomorrow morning. We came back home yesterday night and found most of my acros have died off. Acropora tenuis, Slimers, Bonzai and a few other things are all gone, and a few dead fishes. cause when I left im sure they were sticking out of the water. I left without having any powerheads on and the lights that I had set up were turned off as well. All this does not matter. its a time for prayer and hope my father in-law comes out of surgery ok. I did what I can today and filled up the tank. But its hard to enjoy it while going through a lot of emotional stress.
