Copper test kit
Hello. We thought we had ich, so cleaning up 55 gallon with 20 gallon sump to make into quarantine tank. Using cupermine for copper and have the Sea chem copper test kit but not comfortable with results and process. Heard mixed reviews on the API copper test.
Anyone ever used regular drinking water copper test or aquapond/aquascape copper test kits? Thanks in advance for suggestions/answers. |

Consider doing TTM for Ick. Much less stressful for the fish.

The SeaChem kit should be fine for Cupramine. What problems are you having? I'd stick with it if possible. I'm not sure how other kits will do with chelated copper. Has the kit failed?

I don't know of anything that's got a better reputation, but I've never dosed copper, so I don't have any personal experience.

HANA makes an ULR Copper Check that operates in the PPB... If your trying to keep your target steady you will need something with more resolution then the salifert test. Most fish (non-wrasse) will be fine above .2 ppm complexed (ionic) copper, I'd never go above 0.5, and 0.8 in my mind is lethal. With the Saifert test from 0.5 to 1.0 I'd be a bit worried about swings. I also don't like eye reading the test making HANA that much nicer.

If you're using Cupramine, the only kit that will properly test for it is the Seachem kit (so I have been told). Since the dose is 0.5ppm for saltwater, having the reference solution to learn from makes it less difficult to judge a proper reading.

Has anyone tried the Hanna checkers for Cupramine? I'd love to get an easy, objective test for something so important.

I am not sure that the Hanna will handle the chelated copper. I'd stick with the SeaChem or do some research into chelated copper chemistry.
