TTM explained please
anyone have a link on how TTM works? I get the 2 tanks thing and transfer fish every 3 days, I guess my question is when you transfer fish from old tank to new tank are you supposed to discard old water from tank that fish is removed and replace with new water? if I have a 20 gall and a 10 gal and I have to keep replacing water I guess that can add up ...
Thanks |

Yes, discard water, either dry buckets or sanitize with bleach and then dechlorinate. If you use old water, you're keeping the old parasites.
It does add up, but compare it to the costs of running a secondary quarantine tank, or the costs of losing livestock. Choose which ones fits your budget (and possibly morality) best. That being said, I gave up on TTM and QTing after losing a number of fishes in TTM despite providing adequate flow, feeding, hiding places, appropriate water condition, etc. Maybe they just weren't meant to be. So now my tank has ich, just like 95%+ of the other tanks out there. |
