Lost My Goldflake Last Night
Beyond sad...
My goldflake angel developed Popeye a few weeks ago but has been acting and eating normally, even up until yesterday. I have had it for over a year. This morning I found her dead. I have typically had very good luck with keeping fish long term but lately have lost a few new ones I tried to introduce. Nothing changed in my tank. Parameters are below. PH 8.1 Salinity 1.023 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 30 Temp 75 KH 9.3 Cleaned and did a water change yesterday, which I do weekly. No other fish show signs of distress at this time. I’m 😢 sad, that was my favorite fish. Any ideas? Can popeye kill a fish? |

Popeye usually doesn’t kill a fish. More than likely this was a secondary infection caused by trauma. If the fishes immune system wasn’t 100%, sometimes they have more trouble fighting off the initial infection. Could have been vibrio or something related.
I’m sorry for your loss but anytime an infection happens, the fish should be treated whether they are eating well or not. Kanamycin or Maracyn would have stopped this. Again, I’m sorry for your loss. |

My wife just informed me that Epsom salt can be added to a tank and it will also help Popeye. I’m sorry.
