Growth with Rapid LED kit?

Has anyone seen solid growth with their Rapid LED retro kit on their BioCubes? I installed said kit a while back but haven't seen anything crazy as far as growth. Last night I decided I'd add back one if the PCs the BC came with originally in addition to the lEDs. So with that said i wired up a day light PC and squeezed it in the hood. I figured this couldn't hurt. Also, I don't know if anyone else has done this but I kept one of the moon light strips in the hood after installing the Rapid kit. I pretty much keep this on 24/7 as the way it's in the hood it only illuminates the first 3rd of the display tank. I digress though as I'm really just curious as far as other tanks growth rates with the rapid kits. I didn't have any red LEDs and I think that might have hurt me a little.

I have a rapid LED kit on my nano cube 28 gallon and I have seen decent growth with it on some corals. I am getting good growth with my birdnest and monti frags, but I can not get much growth at all out of my LPS frags.

Yes, success can definitely be had with the Rapid LED retro kit. Check out ReefWreak’s build thread... he uses the Rapid LED kit.

+1

While I didn't have their "kit", I did run their aurora puck and had great growth in my biocube.

Not having the red leds is not hurting you at all. Corals have very little need for the red spectrum of light, crisp whitee and blues in the 400-460 range will cover the spectrum nicely. Sps in particular grow very well more on the blue end of the spectrum. Water filters out reds so corals in the ocean have adpated to thrive on blues light that phototsynthetic plants on land.
