What kind of sump is this?

What kind of sump is this? What is the best setup for it, and is it missing anything?

It looks like something custom built.you'd need more pics of what the interior looks like and where the baffles are.

The RED is the baffles, the ORANGE is a grate type of thing, the BLUE is the water flow with arrows distinguishing intake(down) and return(up), and the GREEN is the operating water level marked on it. I would take more pictures, but it's at my other house at the moment.

Very peculiar design... Usually there's a baffle that water is forced to go up and over, creating at least one chamber with a stable water level for a skimmer. As it is, the baffles aren't doing much of anything. (That doesn't mean it can't be made to work though. It's just odd, and likely not as effective at removing micro bubbles.)

Any idea on what the design of this was meant to be? And is there any specific design/fix you would recommend to make this sump work the best it could?

No idea what the design is meant to accomplish.

I'd put two partitions, one before each of the existing partitions, that go from the floor up to the desired water level, such that water has to go over them, then under the existing baffles.

Looks like a baffle in the return section is missing

Looks like there is at least one place near the return pump where you can slip in another baffle

I've just never seen a sump with baffles that go from top to bottom, and have 5 inches of space between them and the bottom. It seems the way it is setup now that it is just one big chamber?
