Will this work for QT?

Hi all , my last quarantine experience was kind of a pain in the &$@.
My qt is not cycled, just set up the day I bought fish. I was doing daily water changes to keep up with ammonia and long story short I got impatient and added the fish to my DT after two weeks.
My plan for the next QT is this;
I popped a couple of leftover chunks of dry rock into my sump along with the sponge from my qt tank filter to let them get seeded with bacteria. When I set up my next qt I will use half fresh salt water and half water from my DT and I will place the rocks and sponge from my sump in there as well.
Will this help me keep the ammonia down and also how long must I leave the rocks in my sump before I’m able to use them?
It is caribsea dry rock by the way.
Thanks for any input!

i dont recommend any rocks or sand in qt, due to many reasons one being meds get absorbed in the rocks and can leech back making steady medication levels impossible.
also using water from DT is not a good idea as well, its not going to bring any good bacteria with it just nastys you dont want in qt to begin with.
here is a guide i wrote a while back it should help you in right direction.

Well I am not medicating or using copper so I guess rocks will be ok?
And I will not use any water from DT.
Bug how long do I need to leave the rocks in so they will have bacteria on them?

2 to 3 weeks will do the job.

I’ve seen some interesting posts about exchanging water between DT and QT to introduce bacteria and prepare fish for transition. I am doing this from DT to QT only - putting a cup of DT water into the QT occasionally as I raise the salinity of the QT to match the DT when fish are ready to transition to the DT.

This seems make sense to me - introduces the fish in the QT to the bacteria etc they will find when they move into the DT.

I would love to hear other’s thoughts.

water itself does not contain any bacteria so transffering water from DT to QT will bring no good to your tank. Regarding moving fish from qt to dt all you need to do is match salinity, temp and fish will make it just fine over.
